Font - I work nights as a mechanic/maintenance tech for a bus company. 98-99% of my job I work alone, the other 1-2% is passing on relevant information to the a.m. office staff and doing daily paperwork in the office.

Font - I recently had a review and had 'exceeds' or 'outstanding' when it came to doing what is actually outlined for my job but every section where comments could be listed it stated I didn't interact with others enough and my overall review score was 'average' because of it.

Font - I don't involve myself in small talk and office politics. One, I don't have time. I have work to get done. Two, the office staff in is toxic. Most of their interactions with each other is to talk shit on whoever isn't in the office at that time and I have zero interest in taking part in that kind of

Font - crap. Three, there is some kind of soft expectation that employees stick around and shoot the shit on their own time before (or after) their shift which several of them do but I choose not to. I'm hourly and if I'm not on the clock I'm somewhere else.

Font - Anybody else run into this kind of thing? Normally, I wouldn't care. Outside of my wife and kids I just prefer to keep to myself. I enjoy my life far more that way. But this review is used as a determination in what percentage wage increase I get so I'll be missing out and it has me a little miffed.

Font - Diesalotwpg 5 days ago There is a reasonable chance that those comments exist solely for the purpose of justifying a lower percentage. It is also possible that the person who wrote the review values personality over performance. Whether either or both of these are the case is something you'll have to assess based on your knowledge of the people and company. If there are other people doing the same job, you may want to ask them how they were reviewed (be careful of both your local labour l

Font - JackBee4567. 4 days ago I think this is the best answer. I used to get marked down for that as well... but once I hit the top of my grade and coudln't get a raise anymore... somehow that wasn't a concern.

Font - B Expensive_Finger_973 4 days ago This is true. I worked somewhere once where my supervisor told me bluntly that they were dinging me on the engaging portions of the review because I did not do it enough and even if I did it would not matter because no one gets a perfect score on everything because then he would have to justify a raise. I was pissed on one hand, but I almost respected his candor on the other.

Font - A_1010_Alicorn. 4 days ago This is one of the problems with management. They expect that "extra" that you DON'T have to give. You're there to do your job. That's it. It's not a social club, it's work. I'm sorry it lowered your rating!

Font - AmIHigh 4 days ago It'd be interesting to press on this issue and see what they say. The moment any hint of off hours talk comes up tell them so you're evaluating me off hours? That isn't fair and should be excluded.

Font - C8S7-C137 4 days ago You're a mechanic, as far as I'm concerned your job is to fix shit, not shoot the shit. I fcking hate that jobs these days basically sh.t on introverts these days even when they actually do their job and do it well. Especially for jobs which are typically done by introverts to begin with like computer techs. I'm in the process of applying for a job as a help desk technician right now because my current job recently landed me in the hospital and one of my concerns is t

Font - It shouldn't be that big of a deal! There shouldn't be any kind of expectation to engage with my coworkers outside of work! And even on the job, I shouldn't have to engage in matters that aren't strictly work related. Especially for small menial jobs that no one in their right mind would consider a career.

Font - WishIKnew_ButIDont 4 days ago Silent ButNot Deadly Something I learned the hard way is that often "it's not what you know, it's who you know". My doing my job and staying out of office politics got me screwed over more than once before going self- employed.

Font - Once I was even made redundant despite literally being the only one who could do the job because another manager wanted to keep a favourite they liked. Found out later that "favourite" crashed their whole system as they didn't know what they were doing. Management just covered it up and blamed the IT system.

Font - Another time and another place, management employed someone with no previous experience and let them "work" from home. They literally did nothing while I had to come into the office daily and carry them. There was something going on. Ended up quitting after that new employee made false allegations against me to cover up doing nothing, while management refused to act on it and turned on me to cover it up. Again found out they had a hard time getting the job done without me. Management trie

Font - forgeris 4 days ago Depends how easy you can find another job, but in any case it would be a good idea to talk to your boss and explain what is happening and why, if your boss is not dumb then all should be fine. You don't have to agree with your ratings if they are wrong or like in this case - has nothing to do with the actual job. What's next - they will start rating mechanics by their dancing abilities?!

Font - TauntaBeanie. 4 days ago Discuss it with your supervisor and make it clear that you're willing to take it to their supervisor. If you're fulfilling your actual duties above expectations then it sounds like there's a personality problem and not only could they use it to give you a lower increase but to get rid of you. A lot of jobs have social expectations but that doesn't make them ok. We've been cultured to be at work early and stay late and generally make work the focus of our world. It
